The Hendre Wallog Hill Race held in Abergynolwyn recently attracted it's highest ever number of entrants, but the overall result was very much a 'family affair' with a son & father combination claiming both the first and second places on the podium.

Overall race victory was achieved by Dylan Jones of Aberdyfi, the Bro Dysynni athlete home in a time of 16.26mins, almost three minutes clear of father, Tom Jones, also of Bro Dysynni, who finished in a time of 19.24mins. Third place went to Iwan Jones of Bryncrug, also claiming the prize for 1st Junior Male Under-16 as he crossed the line in 19.57mins, a mere 6 seconds ahead of Ricky Francis of Talyllyn, the Meirionnydd RC athlete home in 20.03mins. The top 5 finishers were completed by Rhys Roberts of Rhoslefain, the Bro Dysynni runner also claiming 2nd spot in the Junior Male Under-16 category as he crossed the line in a time of 20.46mins. The race also had an international feel as it attracted both Dutch and German competitors, indeed it was the German entrant who dominated the ladies section of the event as Frederike Muth claimed a comfortable victory in a time of 21.19mins. There was an excellent tussle in the Male Veteran category as Richard Griffiths of Tywyn just pipped Alun Jones, the Bro Dysynni athlete home in 22.55mins, 10 seconds ahead of his Bryncrug based colleague who followed in 23.05mins. Naomi Wood of Rhoslefain was the 2nd female finisher in a time of 23.29mins with youngster, Twm Morris of Llanegryn following, claiming victory in the Junior Male Under-13 section in 24.52mins. A mere 15 seconds seperated the first three Lady Veteran finishers, all affiliated to Bro Dysynni, as Gwenan Roberts of Rhoslefain, Clare Horton of Tywyn & Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd came home in respective times of 26.26mins, 26.37mins & 26.41mins. Finally, two young athletes based in Abergynolwyn claimed victory in the Junior Female sections, Jessica Evans claiming the Under-16 section in 34.36mins & Chloe Crawley claiming the Under-12 category in an excellent 34.37mins.

One Meirionnydd Running Club athlete who has been busy recently has been Jeff Davies. First up was the Didcot 5 Mile Race where victory was achieved in the Male Over-60 category in a Meirionnydd Running Club age category record time of 32.54mins. This was followed by a similar achievement at the Frampton-on-Severn 10k, once again victory in the Male Over-60 section being claimed in a Meirionnydd age group category record time of 40.50mins.

Finally, an athlete with strong Tywyn connections has continued his recent punishing schedule of race events. On this occasion, Gavin Griffiths headed to Llanfrynach in the Brecon Beacons for the Fan y Big Horseshoe Fell Race, a 10.3 mile event which also included a total of 2,200 feet of climbing. Hard training undertaken over the previous months once again paid dividends as the Bro Dysynni athlete crossed the finishing line in a time of 1hr 50.44mins.
