Alun finishing in 2nd place in Wanaka, encouragement being provided by another ex-Bro Dysynni athlete, Adrain Bailey (a.k.a. Golden Balls!) Rhewl near Llangollen was the venue recently for the Llantysilio Fell Race, the 6.2 mile event which included 2,100 feet of climbing also being chosen as the 1st counting race within the 2014 WFRA Cotswolds Outdoor North Wales Fell Running Championships. The race attracted 5 athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club amongst the 117 competitors who lined up at the start. Leading home the Meirionnydd contingent on the day was Alan Jones, the Ffestiniog based athlete claiming a 26th spot finish in a time of 1 hr 02.10 mins. The remaining quartet followed in the guise of Arfon Hughes of Dolgellau in 1 hr 08.12 mins, Graeme Stringer of Llanelltyd in 1 hr 13.31 mins and the Dolgellau duo of Juliet Edwards and Nich Bradley in respective times of 1 hr 14.40 mins and 1 hr 17.44 mins.

Bro Dysynni A.C. were recently represented at the Ras Cors Caron Half Marathon in Tregaron by Eifion Roberts with the Harlech based athlete completing the 13.1 mile course in a fine time of 1 hr 35.14 mins to claim 2nd spot within the Male Over-50 age category at the event.

Two other athletes with strong local connections have also been in half marathon action recently,albeit in far sunnier climes. Firstly, Alun Williams, previously of Barmouth, was in action at the Southern Lakes Half Marathon held in Wanaka in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. The ex-Bro Dysynni athlete produced a sterling performance to claim an overall 2nd spot finish in a field of 260 in a time of 1 hr 11.54 mins. Meanwhile, Meirionnydd R.C. athlete Jeff Davies was in action in the heat of Portugal, his chosen event being the Lisbon Half Marathon, an event completed in a pleasing 1 hr 45.51 mins.

There is local action this coming Saturday with the inaugural running of the Mawddach Goldrush Trail Race. The route, which will measure approximately 9 miles in distance, will be run through the tracks and footpaths of Coed Y Brenin. The main race is due off at 12.30pm with the additional attraction of a Cani-Cross Race for dog owners due off at 1.00pm. Further details relating to the event are available from
