Three charities, namely the North Wales Air Ambulance Appeal, Ukraine Humanitarian Aid and the cancer research charity, Odyssey, were the main beneficiaries as over 70 runners were attracted to two local fun runs both held on a fine and sunny Boxing Day.

At the Tyn Y Groes Hill Fun Run held at Ganllwyd a mixture of the serious and not-so-serious athlete tackled the 2.5 mile hill which included 700 feet of climbing. The race was dominated by Eryri Harriers athlete, Adam Haynes, who claimed a comfortable victory by over a minute in a time of 22.43mins. He was followed by three Bro Dysynni athletes, namely Tony Hodgson of Llanelltyd in 23.48mins, Nigel Evans of Dolgellau in 24.38mins and a youthful Nick Bradley, also of Dolgellau in 27.08mins. After their exertions, all the competitors retired to the Tyn Y Groes Hotel for well-earned soup and mince pies.

Meanwhile at the Ynysmaengwyn Fun Run held in Tywyn, home town runners Mike Palmer and Tom Jones could not be seperated as they crossed the line of the 5 mile multi-terrained event together in 41.16mins. Following home shortly afterwards was Tywyn veteran Richard Griffiths whose time of 41.22mins suggests that he is in fine form as he enters 2006. The affiliated 3 mile fun run was dominated by the youngsters as Myles Langston led home Erin Gilliland, leaving many more experienced athletes in their wake. As above, after their exertions all the competitors were once again rewarded for their efforts with soup and mince pies.
