Five locally affiliated athletes formed part of a field of 60 competitors at the recently held Newtown 10k Road Race organised by Maldwyn Harriers.

With overall race victory being claimed by Cardiff A.C. athlete, Gwynant Jones, in a time of 35.48mins, the locally affiliated contingent were led home by Ricky Francis of Talyllyn, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete claiming a fine 12th placed finish in a time of 41.37mins. Club colleague, Graeme Stringer of Llanelltyd, was the next local finisher in 47.18mins before a trio of Bro Dysynni A.C. athletes completed the course, all three claiming age category success within their various groups. Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd led home the trio, victorious within the Female Over-70 category in a time of 57.04mins, followed by Marj Griffiths of Aberystwyth, victorious within the Female Over-65 section in 64.54mins before Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau claimed victory within the Female Over-75 category in an outstanding time of 92.25mins.

Two locally affiliated athletes also competed over the same distance, this time at the Wrexham Road Runners 10k recently. The busy Ricky Francis completed the course in a time of 41.31mins with Bro Dysynni A.C. counterpart, John Tee of Blaenau Ffestiniog, following in a time of 53.26mins.

Finally, there was regional recognition recently for Glyn Griffin of Llanfrothen, as he was chosen as part of the North Wales Senior Male squad in action at the Settle Hill Race in North Yorkshire, the race chosen to host the 2013 Fell Running Association Inter Counties Championships. The Meirionnydd Running Club athlete completed the course in a time of 55.03mins to held North Wales to an overall 2nd spot at the event.
