There was local interest at the 14th running of the Welsh Inter-Regional Cross Country Championships which were held at the Royal Welsh Showgrounds in Builth Wells during the lead up to Christmas.

In the 'Senior Female' category, there was a tremendous 2nd placed finish from an athlete with strong links to Porthmadog as Alaw Beynon-Thomas, representing West Wales at the event, came home in an excellent time of 26.00mins. Two female athletes affiliated to Bro Dysynni also achieved age category success at the event, as Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd claimed overall victory within the Female Over-70 category in a time of 31.21mins whilst Marj Griffiths of Aberystwyth claimed 3rd spot within the Female Over-65 section in a pleasing time of 39.41mins.

Meirionnydd Running Club were also represented by two athletes within the Male section, as David Parker claimed an outstanding 22nd spot finish within the 'Senior Male' category in a time of 41.37mins whilst Clive Edgington of Friog claimed a 2nd spot finish within the Male Over-55 section in a time of 37.07mins.

Meirionnydd Running Club were also represented at the recent Corndon Classic Fell Race which started and finished at the Shrposhire village of Priest Weston. The Meironnydd representative at this event was David Elliott, the Machynlleth based athlete covering the 5.8 mile race, which included an overall 1,850 feet of climbing, in a pleasing time of 56.48mins which, in turn, claimed an overall 26th spot finishing position.

Tyn Y Groes Hill Race

Once again the Tyn Y Groes Hill Race will not take place at 12:00 noon on 26th December. Hope not to see you there!
