News Report 22nd October 2000

Three local runners were among the record 40,000 finishers at last weekend's Great North Run Half Marathon which was run between Newcastle and South Shields.

The first local finisher was Dolgellau athlete, Colin Evans, coming back into form as he crossed the line in 1hr 41.36mins. He was followed by Andy Unwin in 1hr 55.03mins with the Bro Dysynni trio being made up by Gill Allday of Barmouth who finished in 2hrs 18.11mins.

Also published this week were the results of the Welsh Open Fell Running Championship, based on positions over the six qualifying races.

Bro Dysynni ladies did exceptionally well overall as Andrea Goode, Rosie Naish and Paula Jeffs claimed 3rd, 5th and 7th positions respectively. In the male open section, David Whittey claimed a share of 3rd position as Bro Dysynni made quite an impact on the fell running scene in the Principality.

This weekend sees the running of the Chester 10k, a race which usually attracts a large number of Bro Dysynni athletes - the race is due to start at 11.00am on Sunday.
