Alan Jones seen in action at the Half Peris Fell Race.

A quartet of locally affiliated athletes recently took on the 13.1 mile challenge presented by the Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathon in Montgomeryshire. The quartet were led home by Llanfrothen based athlete, Glyn Griffin, the Meirionnydd R.C. runner claiming a 42nd spot finish out of the 1,348 who completed the event in a time of 1hr 21.06mins. Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd was the next locally affiliated runner to finish, leading home a trio of Bro Dysynni A.C. athletes in action at the event, as a time of 2hrs 03.21mins also claimed age category victory within the Female Over-70 section. The second Dysynni finisher was a resurgent Marj Griffiths, the Aberystwyth based athlete crossing the finishing line in a time of 2hrs 29.24mins with Sheila Symonds turning in yet another remarkable performance, the Dolgellau athlete completing the course in a time of 3hrs 16.32mins to claim age category success within the Female Over-80 section.

Two Meirionnydd R.C. athletes took to the hills recently, their chosen event being the Pedol Peris Horseshoe Fell Run. In a formidable challenge run over a 17.5 mile course which included an overall 8,500 feet of climbing taking in the peaks of Elidir Fawr, Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Y Lliwedd, Yr Wyddfa and Moel Cynghorion, Dave Parker claimed an outstanding 22nd spot finish in a time of 3hrs 43.39mins. In the affiliated Half Peris Fell Race run over 8.5 miles and including a total of 4,500 feet of climbing, Alan Jones claimed an overall 13th spot finish, the Ffestiniog based athlete home in an overall time of 2hrs 14.52mins.

Two locally affiliated athletes have also seen action recently at two 10k events held in the south of the Principality. At the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k, Meirionnydd R.C.athlete Ifan Richards was chosen as part of the North Wales squad in action at the Welsh Inter-Regional 10k Championships and the Brithdir based athlete did the region proud as he produced a personal best time of 34.38mins which claimed an overall 51st spot finish out of 2,988 athletes who completed the event. Further to the east, Bro Dysynni athlete Geraint Evans was in action at the Cardiff 10k with the Porthmadog based athlete producing a sterling performance to finish in a time of 51.50mins.

Finally, three Meirionnydd athletes have recently undertaken the weekly 5k challenge held within Plascrug Park in Aberystwyth. The busy Glyn Griffin completed the challenge in 17.59mins, Alison Smedley of Dolgellau in 26.37mins and Sharon Lewis in 28.32mins.
