Searing heat greeted the 12 local athletes from Bro Dysynni AC who travelled to Prestatyn last Sunday to compete in the Eddie Faure Memorial 10k.

 

In a race which attracted a field of 132 athletes, the winner was Simon Shields from the host club, who crossed the line in 33.13mins. The first of the local contingent home was David Whittey who, in his last race before competing in this weekend's Three Peaks Yacht Race, finished in 39.39mins.

 

Other local finishers with age and categories were as follows: Malcolm Taylor in 42.06mins (1st male vet. over-55), Rosie Naish in 42.58mins (1st female vet. over-40), Huw Clive Harrison in 43.04mins, Andrea Goode in 43.54mins, Graeme Stringer in 44.29mins, Glenda Davies in 45.49mins (2nd female vet. over-35), Barrie Jackson in 49.35mins, Colin Evans in 50.04mins, Roy Peel in 1hr 03.12mins (2nd male vet. over-70), Brenda Jones in 1hr 06.00mins (2nd female vet. over-55) and making a welcome return to competitive action, Marjorie Griffiths in 1hr 06.02mins (3rd female vet. over-55).

 

Also last Sunday, Tywyn-based runner Walter Marsh competed in the Offa's Dyke 15 mile race between Hay on Wye and Kington. Once again in scorching conditions, Walter finished in a time of 2hrs 03.31mins, to finish in a superb final position of 33rd out of a field of over 300, whilst also claiming the 2nd vet. over-50 award.

 

This weekend whilst the domestic action is the Whittington 5-mile race on Friday evening, five club athletes namely Keith Allday, Liz Bradley, Paula Jeffs, Andy Sanderson and David Whittey will be battling with the elements in the Three Peaks Yacht Race.
