News Report 18th February 2014

Both Meirionnydd R.C. & Bro Dysynni A.C. have been represented at half marathon events recently. Representing Meirionnydd over the 13.1 mile distance was Sandra Williams, the Dolgellau based athlete travelling to Tregaron to complete the Ras Cors Caron event in an excellent time of 2 hrs 02.11 mins. Meanwhile, Bro Dysynni representation was provided by Brenda Jones, who headed to Wrexham to compete at the Wrexham Village Bakery Half Marathon. Due to a marshalling error, a number of competitors ran an additional half mile above the allocated distance resulting in the Llanelltyd based athlete coming home in a time of 2 hrs 10.43 mins, which also claimed age category victory within the Female Over-70 section of the North Wales Half Marathon Championships which were incorporated within the event.

The 2013-14 Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross Country League also came to a conclusion recently as The Marches School in Oswestry played host to the fifth and final fixture of the season. In a low key event, Ricky Francis of Talyllyn was the sole male representative from Meirionnydd R.C., completing his race in a time of 53.52 mins whilst Yolanda Marconi-Nolan was the sole female Bro Dysynni athlete in action, completing her course in a time of 37.53 mins. As a result of the above, the final league standings saw Meirionnydd finishing in 7th spot in the Male 1st Division, narrowly avoiding relegation after a bright start to the season, whilst Bro Dysynni claimed a 5th spot finish with the Ladies 2nd Division thanks to the ongoing efforts of a small but dedicated group of athletes.
