Moel Siabod

Local athletes have been involved in a plethora of events recently with a wide selection of Summer races available both locally and further afield.

A quartet of locally affiliated athletes made the journey to Capel Curig, their chosen event being the 5.8 mile Ras Moel Siabod, a fell race which also included an overall climb of some 2,300 feet. Leading home the quartet and claiming a fine 2nd placed finish at the event was Ifan Richards of Brithdir, the first of three Meironnydd Running Club finishers in a time of 48.39mins. Representing Bro Dysynni A.C. on the day was Aberdyfi based, Dylan Jones, who claimed a fine 9th placed finish in a time of 53.45mins. Completing the Meirionnydd R.C. turnout were the Dolgellau-based duo of Arfon Hughes & Nich Bradley, home in respective times of 1hr 03.33mins & 1hr 12.38mins.

A trio of locally affiliated athletes also headed to Cerrigydrudion recently, their chosen event being the Fairy Freckled Cow Trail Race, an 11k event run over the woodland trails surrounding Alwen Reservoir & the moor land of Mynydd Hiraethog. Leading home the trio on this occasion was Frankie Vaughan of Ganllwyd, the Meirionnydd R.C. athlete home in a time of 54.34mins. Claiming overall victory in the Female Over-70 category was Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd, the Bro Dysynni A.C. athlete home in 1hr 06.04mins whilst Barrie Jackson of Bala claimed victory in the Male Over-70 category, the Meirionnydd R.C. athlete home in a time of 1hr 14.54mins.

Thirsk in North Yorkshire was the venue for Kilburn Feast 7 Mile Road Race, an event which attracted the interest of two Ganllwyd based athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd R.C. Leading home the duo was Andrea Vaughan in a time of 53.24mins with husband Frankie Vaughan following in a respectable 56.09mins.

One Bro Dysynni A.C. athlete putting in the miles before his inclusion at this Saturday's Ras Y Wyddfa has been Gavin Griffiths, ertswhile of Tywyn but now based in South Wales. His two most recent race outings have been at the Scenic 7 Mile Race held within the Cwmcarn Forest area of Cross Keys, an event completed in 56.09mins & the traditional Ras Guto Nyth Bran, a 6 mile fell race including 1,300 feet of climbing based in Bedwas, Caerphilly, an event completed in a pleasing 45.23mins.

One past member of Bro Dysynni now based in the Southern Hemisphere is Adrian Bailey, originally of Barmouth, and his most recent race outing was at the Gold Coast Airport Marathon in Australia, where the ex-Welsh running international completed the event in a time of 2hrs 34.58mins, which in turn claimed an outstanding 22nd spot finish out of the 4,552 athletes who completed the event.

Finally, Moel Eilio in Llanberis was the venue for the 10th & final fixture of the Joe Brown Midweek Fell Running Series recently. Completing the series in fine fashion was Ifan Richards, victorious in the final fixture in a time of 25.32mins. With the dust having now settled on the series, the overall results of those who completed in four or more of the 10 events placed Ifan Richards in an overall 2nd spot finish with his Bro Dysynni counterpart, Dylan Jones, in an overall 6th placed finishing position.
