There was regional recognition recently for Alex Lanz, as the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete was chosen as part of the North Wales Male Under-20's team in action at the British & Irish Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships which were held in Cofton Park in Birmingham. In a most competitive age category, which attracted a total of 182 competitors, the Dolgellau based athlete performed well on the day to come home in 130th position in a time of 29.49 mins.

Two further athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd, both based in Arthog, were also in competitive action recently, their chosen event being the Rhayadar Round the Lakes 20 Mile Race. In a particularly gruelling event, there were excellent respective finishing times of 3 hrs 20.19 mins and 3 hrs 23.43 mins for Heidi Roden and Nicola Rees.

There is local action this coming Saturday lunchtime as Llanuwchllyn will play host to the Ras Yr Aran Fell Race. The 10 mile event which also includes an overall 3,100 feet of climbing is the third and final counter within the Meirionnydd Winter Race Series. The main event is due off at 1.00 pm with an additional attraction being the Ras Garth Fawr due off at 1.15 pm.
