A quartet of locally affiliated athletes recently headed south to take part in the Borth 10k Beach Run, an arduous event run totally over both soft and compact sand. In an out-and-back course which headed from Borth north towards the Dovey Estuary, it was left to one of the younger members of Meirionnydd Running Club to lead home the local contingent as Jamie Evans of Bryncrug claimed an overall 12th placed finish, as well as victory in the Male Under-20 category, in a time of 41.24mins. Following in behind his son was Dylan Evans, also of Bryncrug, the 2nd Meirionnydd R.C. finisher in a time of 44.23mins with Ricky Francis of Talyllyn completing the trio of Meirionnydd athletes in action as he crossed the finishing line in a time of 47.24mins. Representing Bro Dysynni A.C. at the race was Marj Griffiths of Aberystwyth who claimed victory in the Female Over-60 category as she completed the event in an excellent time of 1hr 08.33mins.

A further trio of athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd R.C. were also in action recently, there chosen event being the Gobowen 5 Mile Road Race. In a rare excursion from his preferred fell running, Ifan Richards of Brithdir set a new Meirionnydd club record for the distance as his time of 28.31mins claimed an overall 9th placed finish. Also performing strongly was Frankie Vaughan of Ganllwyd as a time of 36.50mins ensured 2nd spot within the Male Over-55 age category. Completing the trio in action, as well as setting a new club record for the distance in the Male Over-70 age category, was Barrie Jackson of Bala, home in a fine time of 46.42mins.

Another Meirionnydd R.C. athlete currently in fine fettle is Mark Atherton whose most recent race outing saw him heading to Rhyd Ddu for his chosen event, namely 'Y Garn' fell race, a short, sharp 3 mile course which included a severe climb of 1,500 feet. Proof of his recent good form came in the shape of a 2nd placed finish at the event, as the Llan Ffestiniog based athlete crossed the finishing line in a time of 33.26mins.

Another Ffestiniog athlete in action recently was Dewi Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog, his chosen event being the Cardigan RC Mayors 10k Road Race, the Bro Dysynni athlete claiming a strong 6th placed finish over the undulating course as he came home in a time of 39.00mins.

Finally, a busy Ifan Richards returned to action at the Ponderosa Fell Race, a 4 mile event with a total ascent of just under 1,000 feet. With the Horseshoe Pass event being run in torrential rain and strong winds, the Meirionnydd athlete battled the atrocious conditions to claim an overall 3rd placed finish in a time of 26.45mins.
