Brenda Jones seen with Bebbington Trophy for Endeavour

The Marches School in Oswestry provided the back drop recently for the fifth, and final, fixture of the 2012-13 Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross Country League.

As ever, athletes from both Meirionnydd R.C. & Bro Dysynni A.C. were in action at the event trying to consolidate strong end of season league positions for their clubs. In the Senior Men's Race, a quartet of athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd were in action, the quartet being led home by the on-form Dave Parker, completing the course in a time of 38.21 mins to claim an overall 18th spot finishing berth. Alex Lanz of Dolgellau produced a strong performance as a time of 39.08 mins claimed an overall 3rd spot within the Male Under-20's category, whilst Clive Edgington of Friog claimed 2nd spot within the Male Over-55 section in a time of 42.25 mins. The Meirionnydd quartet was completed by Dolgellau-based Arfon Hughes, covering the tough course in an overall time of 44.33 mins. Cross country regular John Nolan was the sole Bro Dysynni athlete within the Senior Men's field, completing the course in a time of 58.07mins.

Meirionnydd R.C. were also represented within the Male Over-70's race as Barrie Jackson of Bala turned in a sterling performance to come home in an excellent time of 40.06mins.

Bro Dysynni athletes were very much to the fore within the Senior Ladies event, with 3 of the 4 athletes in action placing within their respective age categories. Leading home the quartet was the redoubtable Brenda Jones, the Llanelltyd-based athlete claiming victory within the Female Over-70's category in a time of 33.48 mins. Yo Marconi-Nolan was the next Dysynni finisher, a time of 34.09 mins claiming 3rd spot within the Female Over-60's category with Marit Evans of Dolgellau following home in a pleasing time of 36.06 mins. The Dysynni quartet were completed by Marj Griffiths, the Aberystwyth based athlete claiming a fine 2nd spot within the Female Over-65 section, home in a time of 39.17 mins.

All of the above played a part within the end of season standings which saw the Senior Male team of Meirionnydd claim an overall 5th placed position in Division 1, with their Bro Dysynni counterparts claiming 17th spot in Division 2. A strong performance in Oswestry ensured that the Senior Ladies team of Bro Dysynni maintained an overall 7th placed position in Division 2 at the end of the season.

The end of season presentations also highlighted some memorable individual performances throughout the cross country campaign by athletes from both clubs. Brenda Jones was dominant with the Female Over-70 category, claiming age category victory at every event which also resulted in the awarding of the prestigious Bebbington Trophy for Endeavour to the Bro Dysynni athlete. Clive Edgington claimed an overall 2nd placed standing within the Male Over-55 category whilst there were respective 3rd place standings for Alex Lanz within the Male Under-20's section & Yo Marconi-Nolan within the Female Over-60 category.

Away from cross country, Bro Dysynni A.C. were also represented on the road recently as Blaenau Ffestiniog based athlete, John Tee, completed the arduous Nick Beer 10k Road Race held in Llandudno in an excellent time of 57.14 mins.
