A number of locally affiliated athletes swapped their traditional club vests for the regional North Wales vest recently as The Royal Welsh Showgrounds in Builth Wells played host to the 13th annual Welsh Inter-Regional and Masters Cross Country Championships. In the 'Senior Male' event, two athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club were in action, namely Ifan Richards of Brithdir, 24th overall in a time of 38.46mins & Huw Brassington of Bontddu, who claimed a 33rd place finishing spot in a time of 40.26mins. In addition to impressive individual performances, the duo were also part of a North Wales squad who claimed gold within the 'Senior Male' team event, ahead of their counterparts from the three other geographical regions of the Principality. A further duo of athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd also impressed within the Under-17 Male section as Alex Lanz of Dolgellau claimed 15th spot in a time of 19.54mins, with Jamie Evans of Bryncrug following in a time of 21.25mins which, in turn, claimed an overall 27th position within the category.

There were also impressive performances from the six locally affiliated athletes in action within the various 'Masters' categories. Within the 'Male 44-49' age section, the Meirionnydd duo of Kevin Jones of Dolgellau & Mark Atherton of Llan Ffestiniog claimed respective 8th & 15th placed finishing positions in times of 33.33mins & 34.29mins. In the 'Male Over-50' category, Clive Edgington of Arthog was the sole representative, the Meirionnydd RC athlete completing the course in a time of 36.04mins. Andrea Vaughan of Ganllwyd was in action within the 'Female 35-44' age category, the Meirionnydd RC athlete claiming an impressive 8th place within the section in a time of 35.44mins whilst club colleague, Juliet Edwards of Dolgellau, claimed 10th spot in the 'Female 45-54' category in a time of 25.37mins. The sole Bro Dysynni athlete in action on the day, namely Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd, had the satisfaction of claiming individual gold within the 'Female Over-70' category, victorious in an impressive time of 31.09mins.

Prior to the Builth Wells event, a total of six locally affiliated athletes headed to Wrexham, their chosen event being the Helena Tipping 10k Road Race. There were impressive performances from the trio of Meirionnydd athletes in action, as all three finished within the top 30 at the event. The trio were led home by Ifan Richards in a time of 36.08mins, Huw Brassington followed in 36.17mins whilst Glyn Griffin of Penrhyndeudraeth produced a strong performance to finish in a time of 37.00mins in his inaugural 10k road race. A trio of athletes affiliated to Bro Dysynni A.C. followed in the guise of John Tee of Blaenau Ffestiniog, home in a time of 51.06mins, Brenda Jones, victorious within the Female Over-70 category in a time of 54.21mins and Sheila Symonds, the Dolgellau based athlete victorious within the Female Over-75 category in an excellent time of 81.24mins.

One further Bro Dysynni athlete in competitive action recently was Marj Griffiths, the Aberystwyth based runner choosing to head to Rhayadar for the Elan Valley 10 Mile Road Race. In blustery conditions, the Dysynni stalwart claimed an excellent 2nd spot within the Female Over-65 category in a pleasing time of 1hr 59.08mins.
