News 12th December 2005

Last Sundays running of the Cambrian News sponsored Aberystwyth 10k attracted a total of 15 athletes from Bro Dysynni A.C. who lined up at the start as part of the field of 308 competitors.

In a race won by Tomas Jones of Cardiff A.C. in a time of 32.22mins, the first Dysynni finisher, claiming his inaugural male over-50 age group category victory, was Nigel Evans of Dolgellau in 38.59mins. Exactly one minute behind the Dolgellau veteran was Jos Jones of Tywyn with Iestyn Richards of Bryncrug being the next Dysynni finisher in 40.56mins. After his successful exploits in Lanzarote, Tom Roberts of Dolgellau finished well in 41.20mins with two Dysynni valley based athletes following, namely Glyn Lewis of Bryncrug and Mike Palmer of Tywyn in respective times of 42.23mins and 43.04mins. They were followed by a trio of Dwyfor based athletes with Gwyn Jones of Pwllheli finishing in 44.01mins, Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth in 44.14mins and Sheila Jones of Pwllheli in 46.11mins. Up and coming Ganllwyd athlete, Frankie Vaughan was next home in 47.17mins whilst Roma Charlwood of Dolgellau also finished strongly in 48.15mins. There was a good battle between two Dolgellau runners as Marit Evans did just enough to beat Margaret Roberts in times of 51.10mins and 51.28mins respectively, whilst the Dysynni turnout in the 10k was completed by two club stalwarts, namely Marj Griffiths, now based in Aberystwyth, home in 1hr 00.04mins and Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau claiming victory in the female over-70 category in an excellent time of 1hr 17.32mins.

Bro Dysynni also had one athlete competing in the affiliated 5k race in Aberystwyth as Hugh Harrison of Dolgellau was delighted with a finishing time of 24.35mins as he steps up his fitness levels after recent injury concerns.

Bro Dysynni also had a trio of athletes competing in the Helena Tipping 10k race in Wrexham recently. The trio were led home by Steve Gilliland of Tywyn, claiming 4th place overall as well as 2nd male over-40 in a time 34.35mins, whilst Criccieth runner Malcolm Taylor finished in 44.31mins and Sheila Symonds again claimed victory in the female over-70 category, on this occasion in a finishing time of 1hr 16.47mins.

On a lighter note, there were over 20 Dysynni members raising money for charity recently at the Newtown Dial-A-Ride 4.5 mile Santa Run. The race attracted over 4,200 Santas who in turn raised many thousands of pounds for various charities.
