 Two former members of Bro Dysynni A.C. have been in impressive form over the 13.1 mile, half marathon distance recently.

Firstly, at the Shoe Clinic Southern Lakes Half Marathon held in the Cardrona Valley on the South Island of New Zealand, Adrian Bailey, formerly of Barmouth, repeated the success achieved by his former Bro Dysynni colleague, Alun Williams, in 2009 by winning the 2010 version of the race, by leading home the field of 178 competitors in an impressive time of 1hr 11.31mins. Slightly closer to home, there was also an impressive performance by Rebecca Dallimore, formerly of Dolgellau, as she applied the finishing touches to her training for her inaugural attempt at the London Marathon by claiming 3rd female finisher at the partly off-road White Caterthun Half Marathon in Brechin, Scotland in a time of 2hrs 01.26mins.

Members of both Bro Dysynni and Meirionnydd clubs were out in force recently at the Chocoholic's 5k held in Newtown. Leading home the 18 local competitors in action was Ifan Richards of Brithdir, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete claiming a fine 3rd place finish in a time of 17.13mins. A mere 12 seconds behind was club-mate, Tom Roberts of Dolgellau, home in 17.25mins with Dylan Jones of Aberdyfi leading home the Dysynni contingent in a time of 17.47mins. He was followed by club-mate, Dewi Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog, victorious in the Male Over-40 category in a time of 17.56mins whilst Alex Lanz of Dolgellau claimed victory in the Male Under-20's category, the Meirionnydd runner crossing the finishing line in a time of 17.57mins. Three Dolgellau-based athletes followed as Kevin Jones (Meirionnydd R.C.) came home in 18.27mins, Nigel Evans (Bro Dysynni A.C.) followed in 20.17mins with Dave Seabourne (Meirionnydd R.C.) completing the trio in 20.46mins. Fifteen year old Dion Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog followed, the Dysynni athlete home in 21.02mins, 43 seconds ahead of his Meirionnydd counter-part as Graeme Stringer of Llanelltyd came home in 21.45mins. The experienced Richard Griffiths (Bro Dysynni) followed in 22.58mins ahead of the multi-talented Gwion Roberts (Meirionnydd R.C.) of Dolgellau who finished in 24.40mins. There was further Bro Dysynni age category success as Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd won the Female Over-65 category in a time of 25.37mins with club colleague, Huw Harrison of Fairbourne following, delighted with his finishing time of 27.38mins. In her first ever competitive event, Charlotte Milmo of Dolgellau performed well to finish in a time of 30.29mins, ahead of the experienced Andy Unwin (Bro Dysynni) of Harlech, beaming as he crossed the finishing line in a time of 33.22mins. Two further Dysynni athletes completed the excellent local turnout as Eirlys Griffiths of Tywyn finished in a time of 37.16mins with Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau producing another outstanding effort as she claimed success in the Female Over-75 section in a time of 46.50mins.

 

There is further local action this coming Saturday afternoon as Blaenau Ffestiniog will play host to the annual Ras Y Moelwyn. The gruelling 10 mile challenge is due off at 2.00pm from Cae Peips.
