News Report 11th March 2007

The red and green of Bro Dysynni A.C. has been highly visible recently as club colours have been represented at three relatively local events.

The best turnout was at the Farndon 10k race in Clwyd as a quartet of Dysynni runners were amongst the 355 strong field who completed the event in dreadful weather conditions. In a race won by Ben Gamble (Stone M.M.) in a time of 34.04mins, the first Dysynni finisher was Dewi Roberts of Blaenau Ffestiniog in a time of 37.44mins. Next home and claiming 2nd spot in the male over-65 category was Barrie Jackson of Bala in a time of 46.33mins, whilst Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth also claimed 2nd place in his age category, male over-60, in a time of 50.00mins. The Dysynni team was completed by Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd who claimed victory in the female over-65 section in a time of 51.53mins. Prior to the race the Llanelltyd based veteran was also informed that the North Wales Regional Athletics Board had voted her Master Female Road Runner of 2006, a repeat performance of her success, having also won the award in 2005.

At the Dolgarrog Pipe Dream fell race in Clwyd, there was an excellent 5th place finish for Steve Gilliland of Tywyn. Over a 4.9 mile course which  included 1,700 feet of climbing, a time of 41.32mins was also good enough to secure victory in the male over-40 category.

Finally, long distance Dysynni member, Owen Rees also performed strongly in the hills recently. His chosen event was the 4 mile Carding Mill Canter in Church Stretton in Shropshire. In a race which included 1,800 feet of climbing, a finishing time of 52.32mins ensured a 23rd place finish out of a field of 69.
