Windy conditions greeted over 600 competitors who gathered on the promenade in Llandudno last Sunday lunchtime, their challenge being to complete the Nick Beer 10k Road Race, an event starting on the promenade before following Marine Drive and a steep climb up the Great Orme, then a return along the promenade with a flat finish opposite Venue Cymru. Pre-race favourite Rob Samuel of Eryri Harriers lived up to his billing, claiming a comfortable victory in a time of 31.48 mins. The four locally affiliated athletes in action were led home by Tom Roberts of Meirionnydd R.C., the Dolgellau based athlete claiming a tremendous 7th place finish in a time of 35.23 mins. Club colleagues, Elfyn Hughes of Blaenau Ffestiniog and Keith Williams of Bont Ddu followed in respective times of 42.19 mins and 49.35 mins. There was also Bro Dysynni representation at the event, with Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau turning in another exceptional performance to complete the event in a time of 96.21 mins.

Elsewhere recently, the Meirionnydd club were also represented at an event based in and around the outskirts of Newport in Gwent. The event was the Lliswerry 8 Mile Road Race, completed by Jeff Davies in a time of 58.35 mins which also claimed overall age category victory within the Male Over-65 section.
