The two Dysynni protagonists in high speed action at the recent Chocoholic 5k Road Race in Newtwon.

The Easter schedule started early for a quartet of Meirionnydd Running Club athletes who recently headed to Rhewl, near Llangollen, the venue for the 6.2 mile Llantysylio Fell Race, a gruelling event which also included a total of 2,100 feet of climbing. Proving adept to the challenge was Ifan Richards of Brithdir, the first of the four Meirionnydd runners home, claiming an overall 4th position in a pleasing time of 49.11mins. Glyn Griffin of Penrhyndeudraeth claimed an excellent 7th spot in a time of 52.33mins, whilst the Dolgellau-based duo of Arfon Hughes & Nich Bradley completed the Meirionnydd quartet in action as they came home in respective times of 1hr 06.14mins & 1hr 12.27mins.

The first two Meirionnydd finishers at Rhewl were also in action shortly afterwards in Newtown, on this occasion in a completely different racing scenario, a 5k road racing challenge, namely the Good Friday Chocoholic 5k. The race produced another 4th place position for Ifan Richards, on this occasion in a time of 16.33mins, whilst Glyn Griffin also produced a top ten finish as he crossed the finishing line in a time of 17.44mins. Seperating the two was another Meirionnydd athlete, namely Dylan Jones of Aberdyfi, home in a personal best time over the distance of 16.51mins. The Meirionnydd quartet in action at Newtown was completed by Ricky Francis, the Talyllyn based athlete home in a time of 20.45mins. The race also attracted two athletes affiliated to Bro Dysynni A.C. as Andy Unwin of Harlech, in his first competitive outing of 2012, came home beaming in a time of 32.07mins whilst Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau won the Female Over-75 category in a remarkable time of 44.06mins. There was also a recent outing for a Meirionnydd R.C. athlete at the inaugural running of the Betws Y Coed Half Marathon. The runner in question was Sandra Williams of Dolgellau who completed the 13.1 mile event in a pleasing time of 1hr 55.11mins.
