A total of five locally affiliated athletes were in action recently at the Village Bakery Half Marathon in Wrexham, with the race also being chosen to host the 2011 North Wales Championships over the 13.1mile distance. Leading home the local contingent on this occasion was Adam Preston of Dolgellau, the first of five Meirionnydd Running Club athletes to complete the course as he crossed the finishing line in a time of 1hr 21.32mins. The ever-green Tony Hodgson followed, the Llanelltyd athlete home in a time of 1hr 29.02mins, a time which also claimed North Wales Champion status in the Male Over-60 category.
Two further Meirionnydd athletes followed as Dylan Evans of Bryncrug & Janet Preston of Dolgellau claimed respective finishing times of 1hr 36.56mins & 1hr 49.15mins.
Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd was the sole Bro Dysynni athlete in action, albeit she did have the satisfaction of dominating the Female Over-65 section, claiming age category victory in a time of 1hr 57.45mins. The local contingent in action was completed by Jude Evans of Bryncrug, the Meirionnydd affiliated athlete home in a time of 1hr 59.04mins.
Two further Meirionnydd athletes were in fell running action as Tregarth, near Bangor, played host to Ras Moel Y Ci, a 5 mile event which included 900 feet of climbing. The first of the duo home, claiming an overall 4th placed finish was Ifan Richards of Brithdir in a time of 38.10mins, with team-mate, Mark Atherton of Llan Ffestiniog following, as a time of 44.30mins earned a pleasing 19th placed finishing spot.
