The Rhug Estate near Corwen recently played host to the 2011 North Wales Cross Country Championships (supported by Grand Prix Express) with the event attracting the interest of 6 locally affiliated athletes, resuting in one of the six being crowned North Wales Champion within their age category.

 

That athlete was Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd, the Bro Dysynni A.C. athlete retaining her trophy within the Female Over-65 category as she crossed the finishing line in a time of 33.58mins. Also completing the course in the Senior Ladies section was Andrea Vaughan of Ganllwyd, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete claiming a top 20 spot as she came home in a time of 27.41mins.

 

A trio of male athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club all claimed top 15 finishes within the Senior Male category with Ifan Richards of Brithdir, Huw Brassington of Bontddu & Tom Roberts of Dolgellau claiming respective 6th, 11th & 15th placed finishing spots in times of 38.40mins, 41.18mins & 42.51mins.

 

Finally in the Male Under-17 section there was an excellent 3rd place finish for Alex Lanz of Dolgellau, the Meirionnydd RC athlete home in a time of 20.34mins.

 

 

There is local action this coming Saturday lunchtime as the Railway Inn in Abergynolwyn will be the base and starting point of the Tarren Hendre Fell Race. The 6 mile event which  includes an overall 2,000 feet of climbing is the 2nd event within the Meirionnydd Winter Race Series and is due off at 12.00 Noon.
