 The busy Autumn schedule for local athletes has continued recently with competition both locally and much further afield.

 

A quartet of locally affiliated athletes headed to the Lake District recently to take part in the scenic Langdale Half Marathon. Leading home the local competitiors on this occasion was Andrea Vaughan, the Ganllwyd based athlete finishing the event in a time of 1hr 45.09mins which, not only claimed victory in the Female Over-35 category, but was also the quickest Meirionnydd Running Club finisher as team-mates, Frankie Vaughan of Ganllwyd & Juliet Edwards of Dolgellau, followed in respective times of 1hr 46.25mins & 1hr 52.48mins. The quartet was completed by Bro Dysynni athlete Barrie Jackson, the Bala-based runner finishing in a time of 1hr 58.35mins to claim 2nd spot in the Male Over-65 category.

 

Also in half marathon action recently were Ffestyn Williams of Llanbedr who carried on a strong family athletic tradition as he finished the Stockholm Half Marathon in a time of 1hr 44.14mins, and Dylan Howie of Harlech, his chosen 13.1 mile event being the Sony Ericcson Run to the Beat Half Marathon in London, an event he completed in a pleasing time of 1hr 45.17mins.

 

 

Taking to the fells recently were 5 athletes all affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club, their chosen event being the 7 mile Arenig Fawr Fell Race, an event which included an overall 2,000 feet of climbing. Leading the five home on this occasion and claiming an overall 3rd placed finish out of the 76 competitors was Ifan Richards of Brithdir, home in a time of 58.41mins. He was followed by Dolgellau based team-mates, John Smith in 1hr 23.33mins and Iori Jones in 1hr 26.10mins, whilst Brithdir based Kevin Evans came home in 1hr 27.40mins. The local contingent was completed by Victor Gretton, home in a time of 1hr 48.45mins.

 

A quartet of Bro Dysynni athletes took on the challenge of the Flint 10k Road Race recently. Leading home the quartet was Malcolm Taylor of Criccieth in a time of 51.51mins, narrowly ahead of Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd who finished in a time of 52.03mins whilst the Dolgellau duo of Marit Evans & Sheila Symonds completed the contingent as they finished in respective times of 56.19mins & 79.34mins.

 

Also in double-10k action recently has been Rebecca Dallimore of Dolgellau, but now based in the Scottish Highlands. Showing remarkable consistency, the former member of Bro Dysynni completed the Moray 10k & Buckie 10k in respective times of 48.24mins & 48.23mins.
