Amongst the total of 264 athletes who recently took part in the various races affiliated to Ras Y Gader in Dolgellau, were 63 junior athletes who produced excellent performances within their races.

The Under-18 event saw athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club dominate proceedings as they claimed a convincing '1-2-3' within the category. Leading home the dominant trio was Alex Lanz of Dolgellau, victorious in a time of 55.15mins, a mere 26 seconds ahead of club colleague, Jamie Evans of Bryncrug, home in 55.41mins. The trio were completed by Tim Chesworth, also of Bryncrug, who completed the event in a time of 1hr 07.55mins. Victory in the Male Under-16 race was claimed by Rhys James in a time of 21.22mins with Katie Bailey equally as dominant in the Female Under-14 category, the Dolgellau based athlete completing the course in an excellent time of 16.18mins. There were also two impressive performances within the Under-12 age group, Dafydd Roberts of Rhydymain being the 1st boy home in 7.17mins with Non Angharad Hughes of Morfa Bychan being the 1st girl to finish in 7.56mins. Amongst the 43 youngsters who participated in the Junior Fun Run, Harry Hughes of Dolgellau was the 1st boy to finish with Llio Roberts of Rhydymain being the 1st girl.

Amongst the senior contingent, a quartet of locally affiliated athletes were in action at the Llandudno 10 Mile Race towards the latter part of May. Leading home the quartet was Jeff Davies, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete completing the course in a most impressive time of 1hr 13.36mins. The Bro Dysynni duo in action on the day were led home by John Tee, the Blaenau Ffestiniog-based athlete home in a time of 1hr 27.03mins. Christine Owen of Dolgellau was the 2nd Meirionnydd finisher in a time of 1hr 52.49mins whilst the effervescent Sheila Symonds of Dolgellau was the 2nd Dysynni finisher, home in 2hrs 26.48mins.

Mark Atherton of Llan Ffestiniog was the sole locally affiliated competitor who headed to Bethesda recently, his chosen event being Ras Y Caerneddau, a 9.2 mile fell running event which included the three peaks of Carnedd Dafydd, Yr Elen & Gyrn Wigau to produce an overall cumulative climb of some 4,200 feet. Undaunted by the task, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete produced a fine performance, completing the event in a time of 2hrs 09.18mins to claim an overall 16th place finishing spot.

Another Meirionnydd Running Club athlete in action recently was Barrie Jackson who headed to Rhyl to take on the Suncentre 5k event, with the Bala based athlete, in his 1st competitive outing of 2011, completing the course in a pleasing time of 28.53mins.
