Tregarth, near Bangor, was the venue recently for the Ras Moel Y Ci Fell Race, a 5 mile event which included an overall 950 feet of climbing. With race victory being claimed by Richard Roberts of Eryri Harriers in a course record time of 35.10mins, there were impressive performances from the seven athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club in action at the event
Leading home the seven was Ifan Richards of Brithdir, 3rd placed overall in a time of 36.59mins, whilst an intriguing battle ensued between the next two Meirionnydd finishers as Glyn Griffin of Penrhyndeudraeth pipped Dylan Jones of Aberdyfi, the two home in respective times of 41.00mins & 41.21mins. Glen Davies was the next Meirionnydd finisher in 47.23mins with the Dolgellau duo of Arfon Hughes and Nich Bradley following in times of 50.06mins & 55.56mins. The Meirionnydd contingent was completed by Adrian Jones, home in a time of 58.44mins.
A trio of local athletes were also in action at the Village Bakery Half Marathon in Wrexham recently. Leading home the trio over the 13.1 mile course was John Tee of Blaenau Ffestiniog, the Bro Dysynni athlete home in a time of 1hr 54.29mins. He, in turn, was followed by the Meirionnydd Running Club duo of Margaret Roberts of Dolgellau & Rob Thomas of Llanelltyd, claiming respective finishing times of 1hr 59.14mins & 2hrs 03.45mins.
Finally, the Pipe Dream Fell Race in Dolgarrog attracted the interest of two Meirionnydd Running Club athletes recently. Taking on the 5 mile event, which included an overall 1,700 feet of climbing, were the busy Glyn Griffin, claiming an outstanding 4th placed finish in a time of 38.33mins, whilst club colleague Mark Atherton of Llan Ffestiniog also impressed as he claimed an overall 7th placed finish in a time of 39.02mins.
