A quartet of athletes affiliated to Meirionnydd Running Club took the plunge just prior to the New Year, the plunge in question being the 'Jubilee Plunge', a 2 mile downhill race with a total descent of 1,500 feet from the summit of Moel Famau to the finish line in the the Denbighshire village of Llangynhafal. With the race attracting an entry of 75, the Meirionnydd quartet all claimed top ten performances, with overall race victory being claimed by Brithdir-based athlete, Ifan Richards, completing the course in a breathtaking time of 11.44mins. Chris Atherton claimed an excellent 6th placed finish in a time of 12.07mins, a mere 5 seconds ahead of Dylan Jones of Aberdyfi, 7th overall in a time of 12.12mins. The Meirionnydd quartet were completed by Dave Parker, claiming an overall 9th spot in a time 12.19mins.

On the same day as the Jubilee Plunge, one athlete affiliated to Bro Dysynni AC was in action in somewhat sunnier climbs. The athlete in question was Harlech based Andy Unwin, with his chosen event being the Moalboal X-Mas 5k Race held on the island of Cebu in the Philippines. With the race starting at 5am to avoid the daytime heat, the Ardudwy runner came home beaming as he crossed the finishing line in a time of 36.16mins.
