News Report 2nd December 2012

Heavy rain and extremely muddy conditions greeted the competitors who headed to Ysgol Morgan Llwyd in Wrexham recently for the 3rd fixture out of five which constitute the 2012/13 Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross Country League.

It also proved to be a slightly disappointing day for Meirionnydd Running Club who started the day in 2nd postion in Division 1, but by the end of the fixture had slipped to 5th position overall. There were a total of five Meirionnydd athletes in action at Wrexham and they were led home by Alex Lanz of Dolgellau, claiming a 27th spot finish in a time of 32.59mins. Dave Parker was the next Meirionnydd finisher in 33.14mins with Clive Edgington of Friog following in 36.01mins. Alan Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog was the 4th Meirionnydd finisher in a time of 36.20mins with the Meirionnydd team being completed by Arfon Hughes, the Dolgellau based athlete home in a time of 37.13mins.

There was just a sole local competitor involved within the ladies race as Brenda Jones of Llanelltyd claimed victory within the Female Over-70 age category, the Bro Dysynni athlete completing the arduous course in an excellent time of 28.00mins. After the Wrexham fixture, Bro Dysynni dropped one spot in Division 2 to 8th position in the table.

A trio of locally affiliated athletes also recently formed part of a large field who took on the 13.1 mile challenge presented by the Conwy Half Marathon. The trio in action were led home by Sandra Williams of Dolgellau, the Meirionnydd Running Club athlete home in an excellent time of 1hr 55.48mins. A busy Brenda Jones followed, the Bro Dysynni athlete once again claiming age category success within the Female Over-70 section, on this occasion in a time of 1hr 58.22mins, whilst Jacqueline Fowler of Trawsfynydd completed the locally affiliated turnout, as the Meirionnydd runner came home in a time of 2hrs 10.40mins.
